In ATutor, Public, Protected, Private courses are available. It has some privileges to access the course. For what prupose ATutor introduced Protected and Private courses?

This setting basically allows you to limit access to courses to registered users only ("Protected") or to registered users after the instructor's approval ("Private").
"Public" courses are available to everyone, with or without registration.

Please read over the description of these options on the course properties page (Manage -> Properties): I believe the description is full.
