Hi!

I'm interested to use ATutor for my personal website but I'm not tech savvy person and I'm really need help here..

I have downloaded ATutor 2.2 and I recently bought a domain and hosting package for 1 year.

I did try to do as mentioned in installation tutorial but I'm still confused how to install ATutor.

I need someone to guide me how to do this. But I must tell you that I really don't understand this area. So maybe I'm looking to have kind of "ATutor installation guide for Dummies".. smile)

This is what I can see from my CPanel sidebar:
- CPanel version 11.48.3 (build 0)
- Apache version 2.2.29
- PHP version 5.4.33
- MySQL version 5.5.42-cll
- Architecture x86-64
- Operating system Linux
etc...

Please help.. thanks.

You do need some basic understanding or Web technologies to setup ATutor. That basic understanding is not something we can help with.

I'd suggest you find someone with that knowledge to set things up for you

well to keep it simple you have to unpack the ATutor and push it on your server via FTP.
then you have to create a mysql database for all the data of atutor. then you call the website with atutor (including the web-path, if needed) and if you can see the setup you follow the steps. if you have problems, just ask.

Just a note about unpacking, that should always be done on the server, rather than unpacking on a local system and then using FTP.

The database is typically created by ATutor during the installation process. It only needs to be created manually if the MySQL user your are using does not have create database permissions.

Well that is of you can extract it on the server. A lot of webspaces just have http(s) ftp and mysql.

Granted, some providers don't offer unzipping. Its still a problem however that's out of our control.

FYI, see the FAQs

I have an Idea about this. The wbb forum installer uses an install.php to do the stuff while all the files are in a targz, and since php 5.3 php can work with targz archives, so there IS a way of keeping it at least a bit under control...

If you have an idea how to get around the upload file by file issue, we'd be happy to see it.

The code is public on github, so you could potentially submit a pull request with your solution.

This would be something we'd look to the community to create. We have plenty of work already. You could potentially create a mantis feature request, and attached the file there, and include a link here to your request so others can find it.

HI

I installed Atutor via Afrihost and I cannot change the side menu it goes back to default, what folder needs full permission.

Your help will be highly appreciated.

I don't think this would have anything to do with permission.

The side menu is changed in Manage>Course Tools>Side Menu

In the future please start a new thread for a question not related to the subject line. It will help other people find the answer if they are having the same problem.
